During the 2012 Arab International Festival held this past June in Dearborn, Michigan, a group of Christian evangelists were pelted with stones, bottles, and debris by Muslim youths while deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office stood idly by, allowing the criminal assault to take place. Many of the Christians were bloodied by the attack. When Ruben Israel, the leader of the Christian group, asked the law enforcement officers present to step in and enforce the criminal law so that the Christians could exercise their right to freedom of speech, Israel was given the option of either leaving the festival or facing arrest. Israel retained the legal services of the American Freedom Law Center (AFLC), a national, nonprofit public interest law firm that specializes in defending the free speech rights of Christians. AFLC plans to file a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Israel and the Christian group, whose constitutional rights were violated by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Robert Muise, Co-Founder and Senior Counsel of AFLC, commented, "Whether you agree or disagree with the Christians' message, there is one issue to which there is no dispute: no citizen should be stoned in a city street in America for exercising his constitutional right to freedom of speech. And what makes this case so egregious is that law enforcement officers were present and made the conscious choice to allow the Muslim mob to silence the Christian speakers through violence. Indeed, the video of the incident looks like something you would see in the Middle East, not in the United States." AFLC Co-Founder and Senior Counsel David Yerushalmi, an expert on sharia (Islamic law) added, "While it is shocking to see video of Christians being stoned in the United States for criticizing Islam, it is not necessarily surprising that this incident occurred in Dearborn, Michigan, a city where the mayor and law enforcement have consistently violated Christians' free speech rights in favor of appeasing a large Muslim population and where, in line with the Islamic legal dictates of sharia, the Christian Gospel is treated as criminally offensive speech, and violence 'for the sake of Allah' is reinforced by arresting or removing the Christians. What you are witnessing on the video is the enforcement of sharia by a hostile mob and law enforcement aiding and abetting." Israel asked AFLC to assist him and his fellow Christians with their legal challenge because of the experience, expertise, and successful track record of Muise and Yerushalmi, who are no strangers to the challenges Christians face in Dearborn, a city that has earned a reputation as being hostile toward Christians.

The student association claimed the cartoons were "hate speech" and they wanted their university to brand it as such and to do something about it. Well, Professor Wichman did just that. In his e-mail, here's why he said: Dear Moslem Association: As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU I intend to protest your protest. I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders, murders of Catholic priests (the latest in Turkey!), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called "whores" in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland, and the rioting and looting in Paris France. This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many, many of my colleagues. I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceeded with your infantile "protests." If you do not like the values of the West — see the 1st Amendment — you are free to leave. I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option. Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans. Cordially, I. S. Wichman, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Professor Indrek Wichman exercising his speech--It's about time someone said it as it is without cowering in fear over political correctness. As for the Muslim student association, as you might suspect, they weren't very happy with Professor Wichman's response. They demanded he be reprimanded and be forced to attend diversity sensitivity training. And not to be outdone, the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations with their usual double standard demand that only the Prophet Muhammad is allowed free speech in calling for murder of non-Muslims with no free speech afforded to infidels other than their right to open their mouths for one final scream as Muslims chop off their heads. And what was the response of the university for Professor Wichmann standing his ground? Remarkably, they defended Professor Wichmann's right of free speech, saying it was a private email and they don't intend to publicly condemn Professor Wichmann's remarks! Please forward a copy of this email to others to help them to garner the courage to speak out against the growing worldwide Muslim murders of innocent people who they have the audacity to call infidels. By definition an infidel means a nonbeliever and I don't believe in murdering innocent people. Won't you join me? Say it loud. Say it proud. I'm proud to be an infidel! And anyone who is uncomfortable living in a country of infidels, they are welcome to leave it. Schuette laughs with a news conference participant STORYLINE: Michigan's Attorney General on Monday named a former prosecutor as special counsel to investigate whether laws were broken during the process that left Flint with lead-tainted water. Bill Schuette says former Wayne County assistant prosecutor Todd Flood will spearhead his office's probe with assistance from Andy Arena, the former head of Detroit's FBI office. Schuette's office represents both the people of Michigan and state government. The Republican Attorney General says appointing the special counsel will prevent conflicts between him, his investigation team, and the team defending the state against water-related lawsuits. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has apologized for regulatory failures and other things that led to Flint's crisis. Federal investigations also are underway. Schuette, Flood, and Arena appeared at a news conference in Lansing. Asked about past campaign contributions to Republicans, Flood said he has donated to candidates "on both sides of the aisle" and that such contributions will have no bearing on his ability to conduct an impartial investigation. Schuette said he doesn't care who Flood "has given money to." The Attorney General also said he alerted Snyder to the announcement regarding the investigation and that the governor welcomes it and pledges to cooperate. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info@aparchive.com You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/5d534d7a04aac08473ab72549720d370 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

A Conversation Between Hilarie Bass, Co-President, Greenberg Traurig and Dean Patricia White, University Miami School of Law About Hilarie Bass: Hilarie Bass, who was recently appointed as a Co-President, previously completed an eight-year term as the national chair of the 600-member litigation department, and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. During her more than 30-year career, she has successfully represented clients in commercial cases in jury and non-jury trials involving hundreds of millions of dollars in controversy. She is currently Lead Counsel for the Homebuilder Group in the Chinese Drywall MDL, having served as Lead Liaison counsel in prior MDL’s. She is currently an unopposed candidate for President-Elect of the ABA. In 2011, she completed her term as Chair of the ABA Litigation Section. Hilarie is widely recognized for her pro bono work on behalf of two foster children which led to the elimination and holding of the unconstitutionality of the 20-year-old ban on gay adoption in the State of Florida. About Dean Patricia White: Patricia D. White is the University of Miami School of Law’s eleventh dean. Her decade of service as dean of the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, prior to joining the Miami school, elevated her to national recognition as a leader in legal education and made her the longest serving dean in the history of that college, as well as the first woman to serve as a law dean in Arizona. The National Jurist magazine has named Dean White as one of the most influential people in legal education in 2015 and 2014, and in 2013 she was the top woman on the list. Dean White was cited by the well-known legal blogger Brian Leiter as one of nine transformative law deans in the first decade of this century.
